Yasuke, 15 years old, is about to build up the courage to confess his love to his childhood friend Akari, who’s fallen for him, too. There’s just one problem: Yasuke’s family lives in a Japanese shrine, and when he breaks the shrine’s sacred mirror, it triggers a curse, releasing the cute and well-endowed goddess of misfortune, Orihime, into the real world! Now Yasuke can’t ever be out of Orihime’s sight—if he gets too far away, he dies, and can only be brought back to life with a quick kiss from Orihime!
Today we will be starting a new monthly post series here at Japanpopculturehq. The overall goal of these new posts is to help people discover new manga that they may not know about and learn more about a series that they have seen and are interested in learning more about.
Maga-Tsuki is a very cute romance harem manga written by Hoshino Taguchi and is being published in English by Kodansha Comics. The manga is currently on its 8th published volume and can be purchased at local book stores and online. The link to the series’s web page can be found here and the manga can be purchased here.
The art style of this manga series is very cute and bubbly with great lines and very well drawn curves. The characters have very clean look and the artist has no issue conveying the emotions of the characters through their art.. The illustrations are well drawn and fit the mood of the story perfectly. The illustrations can seem very crowded with everything that is going on in them with the dialog and the story elements but after a volume or two you won’t have too much trouble following the story and the illustrations.
The characters in this harem manga are all quite developed and you really get a sense of who these characters are from very early on in the series. The characters each have different personalities and the art, dialog, and story all do a great job drawing the reader in and making you really feel for these characters. From watching the slightly ditsy Orihime try to understand a world that she has not lived in for hundreds of years and the feelings that she is starting to feel and Akari realizing that she had been putting off confessing because she just assumed that her and Yasuke would be together forever and now has some competition in the form of multiple goddesses. Even Yasuke’s Older sister is very well developed despite being there only for plot devices and moving the story along. Side characters are also very well drawn and fleshed out and even have dialog that is well written for the type of character they are even if they are only there for one of two volumes.
Maga-Tsuki is a great manga series with bright characters heart warming story and well done artwork. This is one of the series that would translate perfectly into an anime as long as they stayed true to the story and characters that the manga creator Hoshino Taguchi created. I hope that as this series gains popularity it will be turned in to an anime some time soon. If you have not picked up this series I would highly recommend that you do so the next time you are looking for a new series to pickup and enjoy.
